"Our success as a community as we move into the 21st century may well rest on our ability to draw on the strengths of a diversity of cultures, and a key to this development will be skill in communicating effectively across cultural boundaries. English language instruction plays an important role in enhancing cross-cultured communication, both within our own borders and in the increasingly global community as well."

"Language is the key to the experience of learning that we begin as children and continue as adults. Through language, we learn, we create, and we understand. A good command of a second language enriches our lives and advances our careers. Through Extension's English courses for non-native speakers, you can bring your communication skills in English to a high level of proficiency for professional, academic, or cultural purposes."
